Puppy, daffodils & Danish thriller

Otto looks rather grown-up in the second pic, don't you think? He's much admired - people stop me in the road and ask about him. Behaviour improving slightly, though he's still super-enthusiastic and thrilled to bits to see everyone even if they've only gone out of the room for 15 minutes.

Book news:
there's to be a new biog of John le Carre according to the Telegraph   He had an interesting life, so should be worth reading.

Television
Deeply missing the Danish thriller, The Killing, on Saturday nights. Look forward to the next series. Have started on Spiral - French policier about a female detective, but as yet it doesn't rock my socks or touch my heart. The Danish series depicted the homelife of the main protagonists which helped with credibility and so, however murky and quirky the plot at times, we did believe, and we wholly sympathised with the ordinary couple, Pernille and Theis, who tried to carry on despite their daughter's murder. And we cared that DCI Sarah Lund's single-mindedness about the crime meant that she might lose her lover and temporarily her son. And many of us fancied politician Troels too, with his high ideals and sculptured cheekbones. (Never thought I'd be interested in the candidates for mayor of Copenhagen.) Of course there was also the intellectual stimulus of guessing who dunnit over 20 episodes. If you missed out on The Killing, do get hold of the DVD.
Twitter fans of the Sat night BBC4 TV subtitles thriller are also bemoaning the lack of Lund woolly jumpers in Paris.

Another admirer of Otto here. He definitely has a Profile. Not surprised he's gathering a following.

Great photographs, by the way.

Really sorry to have missed The Killing. Will look out for the DVD, though maybe not the jumpers.

That Otto looks like a sleek black lizard. Not surprised that he's universally admired. Still growing into his paws, isn't he?

Was just thrilled with the two hour intro to "The Killing" last night on American Movie Channel. So there's previous runs in the series? Will check Netflix.

Not surprised to hear of Otto's fan's. He is adorable. We have a yellow male lab called Simba. Wonderful breed.

Will be interesting to read of John Le Carre's life.

Otto. Do you polish him? :-)

Gorgeous Otto! He's so shiny and handsome!

Just read in the handbook that one can polish shorthaired dogs with a chamois (seriously) but Otto doesn't even go to the hairdressers. He has natural shine :)

Talli has taken the words out of my mouth. Otto does look amazingly shiny, a sign of good health I suppose.

He's got a beautiful shiny coat, and so alert!

Otto's looking very grown-up now and extremely sleek!

I've heard a lot of good things about The Killing and have ordered the DVD.

Over here an American version of The Killing has just begun, and it is fantastic. It has a Scandinavian feel to it, though set in Seattle. Perhaps it is to do with the relentless gray skies and rain. Very atmospheric. Anyhow, the acting is superb though it is hard for a parent to watch.

As for Otto, he is beyond adorable. And my older Sadie still gets excited like that regardless of how long we are gone. She is part Lab, and part Rotty.

I too am missing the Killing. And Spiral (of which series 1 and 2 were better I think than this one!) is not really a substitute though it is fascinating in quite a different way from The Killing. This series is brutally gory and horrendous, but very well done throughout. Otto is great!
