Happy New Year - 2010!

Here I am staring out across the mountains into the future, or something like that. The pic was taken by Rory last Sat rather than today, of course, as am now back in sunny Hampshire. Such a lot of strange and dramatic things, bad and good, have happened to me personally in the last decade, but one trudges on and hopes for the best. My new year resolution is to eat less and write more.

Currently re-reading The Balkan Trilogy by Olivia Manning, one of my favourite writers. I used to identify with her heroine, Harriet Pringle, as she was often lonely living in a foreign city and not quite sure what to do with herself. About 20 years or so ago I met an old lady who had known Olivia Manning. She told me she was peculiar-looking and that her husband was unfaithful. Guy Pringle is supposed to be based on OM's husband except in the novels he is neglectful of Harriet rather than a philanderer. You can find out more about Olivia by googling. ('Googling', now that's one of the miracles of the last decade.)

I keep thinking of more resolutions including spending less time messing about on t'internet, so all best wishes for a happy and peaceful new year.

Fabulous view, Susie, but don't you ever get terrified hurtling down those scary slopes?

My daughter has just left to go snowboarding with her father for a week, so will probably be lucky enough to have views similar to yours.

Eat less and write more. Now that is exactly what I should be doing too.

Happy 2010. x

Actually, Jan, I don't hurtle - I merely slide downhill as gently as possible. But after a gap of two or three years, I was thrilled to find that, skiing with all the family, I hadn't entirely lost my nerve.
Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Have not done well on resolution as had to eat 3 biscuits in order to recover from cold walk.

Does it count with the "eating less, writing more" resolution if you write down everything you eat when you eat it? :-) That's what I'm doing in my brand new Beinfang note/sketch book.

I understand what you mean about the highs and lows of the past decade, including being very lonely in foreign places. Have had that experience as well and am glad for it.

All the best to you in 2010 Susie.

Lovely photo! We haven't skied for longer than I care to remember now and I am sure that I have totally lost my nerve.

Happy New Year to you!

We've got almost as much snow as that here right now!

Here's to less eating and more writing for us all in 2010, but I can't bring myself to stop reading and commenting on lovely blogs :o)
