If you missed the film Amazing Grace (2007), based on the story of William Wilberforce, the anti-slavery campaigner, do get hold of a copy of the DVD and show it to all your family. It stars the handsome Ioan Gruffud, Albert Finney, Michael Gambon, Romola Garai, Rufus Sewell and other excellent British actors. Quite apart from the moving and important story, the beautiful 18th-century settings and costumes are brilliant, but of course it is a great deal more than a costume drama. It's astonishing that Wilberforce and Pitt were so young when they were elected to Parliament. A must-see. How lucky we are to have a local film club.

I'll look out for it, Susie - in my copious free time!
Astonishing now re their youth, but I remember doing that period for O-level and seeing nothing extraordinary at all in Wm Pitt yr becoming PM at age 24!
