Self in sari

Self at one of Son 2's wedding parties last October - they had three, including one here. My daughter-in-law's parents kindly gave me this beautiful sari and arranged for a friend to dress me. I felt very elegant, but in order for the sari to stay tucked in you have to wear a petticoat tied tightly around the waist which means you can't eat much. No bad thing, in my case.
The bride wore red to this particular party and looked absolutely wonderful, but have resolved not to post pics of the family.
(Busy checking copy edits at the moment, so not blogging at length.)

The sari is so beautiful and suits you so well. I always thought I had an Indian lady inside me, dying to get out, I love the exotic look of saris so much.

It really does look splendid. That tight petticoat sounds like an excellent way to keep trim, too.

Wow - looks absolutely gorgeous!

It looks absolutely lovely but it must be strange having to be wrapped up in it and being such a tight fit does that mean that Indian ladies feel faint at times?

Thank you all for your kind comments. I didn't feel faint, Sandy, just constricted and obliged to sit up or stand up straight. I don't usually waft around in layers of cream silk, you see. Perhaps the lady tied the petticoat waist so tight because she was afraid it might all come loose on an amateur. The bodice was quite comfortable as I had let it out the day before! They are obviously designed to be easy to alter.
Dressed like this, one needs plenty of servants to do one's bidding - sadly in short supply in Hampshire so I haven't worn it since.

Really lovely, and here's to the next occasion on which you can wear it!

lovely photo and utterly gorgeous sari.

Hope it made you feel as princessly as you look.

Shame about the Hampshire servant problem, of course.

Well, I think you should wear it to the next RNA Winter Party. Or possibly the Awards Lunch. You look fabulous.

I never thought of saris as being at all constrictive. I thought they looked wildly comfortable and flowing.

I always imagine saris must look better than they feel! I'm quite sure that if I wore one I would have to keep on hitching up loose ends and making myself look symmetrical. In any cae I think I'd still look like a dumpy little Anglo Saxon whatever they put me in!

As I said in my orginal post, I felt good and perfectly secure wearing the sari, but because it was cream silk (with gold borders) I was also nervous about spilling anything. I'm sure, for those used to wearing one, a thin cotton colourful sari wouldn't be restrictive, but obviously this was a special occasion and I was delighted to wear what had been chosen for me.

As anybody would have been. It's just gorgeous. Oh dear, covetousness is so not a good thing.

Love the sari. Thanks for dropping by my blog. Looks like we have the love of travel in common.
