Garden at the end of August. Recent reading.

Recent reading:Much enjoyed Case Histories by Kate Atkinson. This is the first of her crime(ish) novels I’ve read. Quite complicated – I had to concentrate hard on who was who in the four case histories. All solved in the end, of course, by the suitably jaded private investigator Brodie, though I had my doubts about the daughter slasher case. The killer wasn't foreshadowed enough, imo!

Currently reading Human Croquet, also by KA. I was put off by the weird start but love it now I’m half way along. She is such a strong, amusingly sardonic writer.

Thank you, GC - am rather pleased with that particular photo myself. Am also relieved that more and more TV presenters are encouraging us to set aside
informal/weedy/messy areas of our garden to encourage wild life/wildflowers/weeds/fungi. That's the only reason I don't have an immaculate garden, of course. It's wonderful to feel virtuous and green rather than guilty.

Lovely garden pics, as ever. Human Croquet was my least favourite Atkinson for some reason (can't remember why exactly, but I just didn't get on with it at all). I love the character of Jackson Brodie, though and hope he will be featured in many more novels.

I thought Human Croquet was most impressive, so stimulating that it kept me awake for hours.
