Strelitzia (two sizes) and volcano skilift.

Have just discovered that the above is strelitzia nicolai, giant black bird of paradise flower, and is, according to Amazon, 'easy to grow'. But the palm or whatever is absolutely enormous (15ft), and needs minimum 5-10 degrees celsius, according to my RHS book, so I don't think I shall be planting it in Hampshire.

Amazing strelitzia. Lovely pics. Looks like an amazing trip - I've never been there. You must wish you were still there with all this unseasonal weather back home!

Yes, I've added more info about the larger black bird of paradise. Agree about the weather - garden is turning into a jungle as I write.

With the extra rain we all seem to be getting it's an even harder struggle against the weeds. The trouble is, I have a problem knowing which is which sometimes when I've planted seeds.
(Ordered your book today - looking forward to a good read).

Thanks so much for ordering one of my books, Sandy. I'm guessing it was Pond Lane and Paris. Hope you enjoy it.

Hello, just taking a look at your blog after you left a comment on mine. What a lovely garden you have! I'll be back.

Callmemadam, thanks for your kind comments about the garden. I should be out there now instead of blogging.
